Petfinder DPFL4

Thanks to a grant from the Petfinder Foundation, LifeLine staff member Jabari Gadsden attended a play group mentorship with Dogs Playing for Life at Austin Pets Alive!

Read more from Jabari about what he learned during this important mentorship:

"My mentorship was very enlightening at APA [Austin Pets Alive!] as it showed me that with dedication, great staff and very supportive hardworking volunteers, that any dog can be worked with and find a suitable home..."

"...They helped me to improve my skill set when it came to leashing and handling dogs, showing how to properly correct any undisciplined leash walking and how to precisely mark and reward good behavior.  APA also gave me a better perspective for dog behavior and how much playgroup can assist in providing a less stressful kennel environment which in turn can affect their health positively..."

"...As for our animals here at DCAS [DeKalb County Animal Services] the mentorship has presented me with many lanes of opportunities and ideas to explore with the staff from regularly running small staff playgroups to get more dogs out of the kennel, to practicing better kennel routines and how to handle an undisciplined dog on a leash. Overall my mentorship has taught me to never give up on a dog, all dogs can play, and that there is always training to be done big, small, young or old!"
